E-Textile Works

The one that started it all...

I was given some circuity supplies for Christmas, and I could not wait to use them. This was the first of my "Technique of the Week" series of quilts on my blog.

Under the Sea series

These 12 x 12 inch quilts show the bioluminescence of various sea life I researched for this project. Using LEDs and Electroluminescent wire, these works actually light up like their underwater counterparts.

LED ATCs

For Quilting Arts Magazine's Dec 2010/Jan 2011 issue, I made 10 ATCs with LEDs in them to accompany my article on putting LED lights in quilts.

Arduino Controlled (LilyPad)

This piece, entitled Shattered, is a manipulated fabric design that has lights embedded throughout that are controlled by an Arduino board called the LilyPad. The lights fade in and out in a seemingly random pattern. The fabric base is various types of fabric manipulation techniques.

Sparkle/Schemer Controlled (aniomagic)

This piece, entitled Dunkelheit, is a manipulated fabric design that has lights embedded throughout that are controlled by a Schemer board by aniomagic. The lights flash in reaction to sound. The fabric base is various types of fabric manipulation techniques.

Thermochromic Paint

This Octopus was painted in with Thermochromic paint, and he appears and diappears with heat.

EL Wire

"A Day at the Lab" was made for my appearance on Quilting Arts TV, episode 811. The design is on a Timtex base and has green EL wire forming the lighted design.

This Octopus was entirely formed from El Wire on a Timtex base.
