This was about as horrible as it’s been. I nearly had a mental meltdown on Friday trying to foolishly paint the whole house. Luckily my good friend came to my house to help, and helped me realize it was more than I coud chew. Then DH called, and was in a three car accident. OMG. OMG. He’s 700 miles away, and I can’t help him or anything. He’s okay, the car is not. I’m mortified. I can’t cry enough tears.
This week’s quilt says it all. My Munch’s Scream.
Our cat Bangles was born 16 years ago this week and died a year ago. We still miss this sweet kitty. I was very spoiled, she was my first pet, and was very very ill at the end. She was grey, with bands around her tail, and one white spot on her chest that was at the end of a dark band that circled her neck. I called that her “diamond necklace”, and always joked that I was going to take it.
We moved DH to Chicago this week and I drove our current 3 cats out. I designed this quilt in my mind the day before the anniversary of her death, and took all of the pcs with me to make in Chicago this weekend. I appliqued the cat by hand, and as I did, one cat came out of hiding and another sat on my lap while I made it. The third reminds both of us of Bangles, and so in this one quilt, all of them are represented. It’s got cat hairs all over it, and I don’t want to clean them off.
I quilted it after the flight back. I planned to do some kind of background quilting in white, and added the wings literally at the last second. It wasn’t in the original plan, but I like it. I finished it in the weekend, so it’s technically on time.
The Pride and Joy of Illinois lost… Oh well, at least it was to Peyton Manning. The Superbowl was the only time I had this week to complete Week 5. We spent all week preparing for and moving into the POD so we can start the journey to my hometown.
DH gave me a hand needle felter and mat for Christmas, and I tried it out on some home decorator samples I snagged from JoAnns. I put these on a sage green kunin felt background. Not bad not zero time to do anything this week. Next week will be a challenge, as we drive 14 hours to Chicago and I fly back to B-more in the same weekend. We’ll see if I can get my square done in time.
I spend my lunch hours away from my desk now. I have been studying my new Quilting Arts magazine with line and form and shape, and came up with a few sketches. This looks very close to one of them except for there are fewer dark squares in this finished project.
The two shades of the background fabrics are Cherrywood hand dyes. I made a shawl of the most beautful greens from a pattern they had at the Chicago show last year. This was some of the scrap and a neat stitching pattern I saw on someone’s wearable art.
Speaking of the Chicago show, I have registered and got in ALL of the classes I wanted this year!! So, now it will be a matter of will I already be living in Chicago by the time the show rolls around in April? Maybe not. That means I’ll still have to fly in. I’m still excited.
This is based on a project I saw last week on Uncommon Threads on the DIY/HGTV craft hours, which thanks to the miracle of DVR, I have been watching lots of lately.
This is a Mola style project. It didn’t turn out like I expected. I have a last touch or two to put on some paisley ATCs and they get mailed tomorrow. My round robin is on Saturday and Sunday my husband is taking me to PA for lunch and quilt stuff with my MIL. Did I mention I was moving too?
