Getting back in gear…

My sewing machine being out of order took me out of commission and then my allergies went thru the roof. I don’t know about you but when I’m sniffly, I just don’t want to do anything. Plus, it seems even non-drowsy meds make me drowsy, so it was a couple of nights on the couch instead of blogging. But I have my mojo back, and I have some cool projects for you! Stay tuned, and thanks for sticking with me during my short hiatus.

The bedroom makeover project

My DH and I have lived with this bedroom for the 4 years since our move to Chicago from Baltimore.  Not seen in this horrible picture is the tray table I have used as a night stand.  The house was built in 2001, and it’s still “builder white”.  We also carried over some of our IKEA furniture, from when we were a struggling young couple who could barely make ends meet.

We hired a painter.  Ever since the days when I was stuck in Maryland trying to sell the house with DH in Illinois at the new job I swore I would never tackle a large painting job again.

Here’s the final color on the walls before the new furniture.  Lillith and Vermithraxis are doing a final inspection of the painter’s work.

TADA!  Grown up furniture.  We saw this set in a furniture store just after I moved here in 2007, and we wistfully fell in love with it, but couldn’t afford it.  Since then I have been checking the manufacturer’s website every 6 months to make sure it hasn’t been discontinued. The bed posts have a metal climbing vine with black metal roses in the frames.  Sort of “goth”?  Ha ha  We’re very happy with it.

Now we just need curtains, lamps, wall art, new pillows, and eventually a better mattress.  But all things in due time, right?  The cats like it a lot, especially Bastet. (And yes, that’s Legolas on the TV, I was watching LOTR).

This N That #22 – Sick edition

I hate being sick.  You never get anything done. And because most of us are something other than a quilter, such as a “mom”, “wife”, “worker” or any combination thereof, being sick means all of those jobs get behind on.
I have a terrible cold, and because I work out of my house and I am not regularly exposed to germs I am taking a beating on this one. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m officially sick of being sick.
****************************
Because I have been sick, I’ve watched a lot of TV, and this allowed me to finally watch “Amelie“. It’s a wonderful movie with a light hearted and wistful story that was such a joy to watch, and I know why it is a favorite of so many people I know.
****************************
I have been keeping up to date with my weeklies and even did a pretty neat Technique of the Week, so I hope to have that posted soon.  For now, back to bed!

Home from the quilt show

And boy are my feet tired!  I promise a bunch of goodie posts this week, including the “What the heck did I buy at the show” show and tell and “what the heck did I make at the show” show and tell, and even a technique of the week that was learned right there at the IQA festival, and it’s something you might really love like I do.

But for right now, I am super tired from both this and the comic book event right before it, so I am off to dreamland and will get the first of my posts up for you to read tomorrow.  Later!
