Die Cutting for Beginners – Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY!
I AM a Self Confessed die cutting NOOB. Yup, I said it. I have dabbled with digital die cutting, where I just placed the cutter over fabric I wanted to cut out, but that was not the same as full on, “crank-the-handle” carriage-style die cutting… So enter Ebony’s amazing, and truly life-changing DVD.
I’ll admit, I didn’t think there was so much to really KNOW about die cutting. I thought you could just plunk fabric down on the die cutter and crank that handle and get die cut fabric, which in truth, you COULD do. But after watching Ebony’s DVD? OMG….the difference. She teaches you about WHY you should cut the way she does. Die cutting IS easy, and Ebony makes your life about 1000% easier with the tips on this DVD.
Let’s take a look at what I decided to try with my new Sizzix Big Shot Plus.
I cut a bunch of 1 inch hexagon papers with this awesome die, so that I can take my paper piecing on my many travels. I used cardstock from advertisements I got in the mail, so it’s a totally upcycled project. I also love that this die perfectly fits a charm square pack of 2 1/2 inch squares for one hexie!
Next up, you know I’m a sucker for the Apple Core block, so I could not resist this perfectly big Apple Core that you can PIECE on your machine!! Yup, that’s the Tula PInk True Colors fabrics I’m cutting into for this project.
They totally went together super quick. I cut and had this table runner made in about 2 hours.
Here’s the finished table runner. All pieced! And freshly ironed.
Each Apple Core was quilted with a different free motion quilting design on my BERNINA 750QE.
Here’s the finished table runner! At the same time I cut this project, I was able to cut the Apple Cores for a quilt that will be at least 60×90 inches. Incredible! I’m totally hooked, and I just ordered 2 more dies and can’t wait til they get here.
