It’s ALMOST HERE!! Once again, I’m running the #31DayBlogWritingChallenge for the 4th year in a row! What is the challenge? Well, back before social media was king, everyone and their sister had a blog. Blogs were great places to learn how to write to your audience on the regular, and share tutorials, tips, and lots of other stuff. Learning to blog regularly meant you were ready for writing deadlines of all stripes, and I learned SOOO much by writing my blog (since 2006).
Nowadays, our blogs are often neglected for the social media channels that are available. As a social media marketing teacher, one thing I often tell my students is that if Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram shut down tomorrow, where would you forward all of your fans to? If you are not regularly updating your blog, your “SEO” (Search Engine Optimization) drops as your site appears to not be updated very often. Even a newsletter, that you can cross post as your email newsletter, posted on your blog helps update your site on a regular interval.
So what IS the 31 Day Blog Writing Challenge? It’s similar in scope to the NaNoWriMo challenge, which is to write a novel in 30 day in November. Post to your blog EVERY DAY in December.
“Why December, Cheryl? That’s our busiest time!” Well, that’s the point. If you can blog every day in December, then you can do it at any time during the year. We are all busy. This is to show that you can do it in one of the busiest times of the year and start off the new year with a bang!
